Initially developed as a dedicated retrieval system for the SafeFlo® vena cava filter, VascuGrasp® is being made available as a stand-alone device for simple capture, retrieval and manipulation of a wide range of devices and foreign bodies in the cardiovascular, neurosurgery, urology settings.
VascuGrasp® features multiple, fluoroscopic-visible, nitinol loops that expand to the diameter of the targeted area (blood vessel or other) at varying angles thereby facilitating easy engagement and attachment to indwelling objects. Slight rotation of the multiple loops engages the object at any angle. With gentle traction on the retriever the loops collapse symmetrically into a small sized retrieval sheath.
VascuGrasp® offers the following advantages over currently available retrieval systems and snares:
Simplicity
VascuGrasp® has been developed for maximum ease of use. The device's multiple loop design minimizes the need for fine manipulation thereby reducing the complexity of retrieving objects. The system can even allow for retrieval of objects at sub-optimal positions. "Side engagement" of the object is possible when the end of the object is up against the vessel wall. This feature offers improved flexibility particularly with embedded objects in tortuous vasculature.
Centering
Once the engaged object is secured at any angle, the multiple loops of the VascuGrasp® system collapse and align the captured portion of the object with the center of the retrieval sheath. This ensures that the object does not collapse sideways or on a tilt and that it can be withdrawn into a retrieval sheath of a diameter slightly larger than that of the retrieved object. The VascuGrasp® system for use with the SafeFlo® vena cava filter allows for retrieval with a 7 French system.
